Challenges and Opportunities –
America’s Future Relations With the World
By Donald K. Allen, MS, DVM
THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO AMERICA TODAY
As they have already demonstrated, radical Islamic terrorists pose the greatest threat to our country today, and will continue to do so for generations to come. Right now, throughout the Middle East and in many other Islamic countries, mothers and fathers are telling their 3- and 4-year-olds that nothing would make them prouder than for the to grow up to become martyrs of Islam. These children then attend madrasahs, where the teachers lead them in chants and songs reviling the United States as the “Great Satan.” When these same children pray in a local mosque, the Imam reiterates what they have already heard hundreds of times – there is a Jihad against Israel and the United States. When the time comes, a recruiter will approach them to follow their passion. Often, they find the recruiter first.
The Muslim suicide martyr concept began during the Crusades. Young Muslim men were recruited to join a secret order, and were shown what Heaven would be like by lavishing them with all the worldly pleasures then known. They were introduced to hashish, which they smoked or chewed, hence the word, “hashshāshin,” which evolved into the name, “assassin.” Theirs was a one-way trip to kill a Christian leader in the Crusade, at which time they would also be immediately put to death, achieving martyrdom and an instant pass to heaven. Today the conviction that this is true is so strong that there is no shortage of ready-to-be-trained terrorists. Our security analysts advise us that the detonation of a nuclear device in this country by Islamic radicals is not a matter of, “if,” but a matter of, “when.”
Roughly 98 percent of Muslims claim that theirs is a peaceful religion, and that the radical 2 percent are murderous villains. What, then, prevents the 98 percent from eliminating that 2 percent themselves? Is it passive acceptance of the radicals, or unspoken support of their actions? Does the vast majority harbor a hope of an Islamic world, which can only come with the elimination of all other religions? Islam was not founded peacefully. Muhammed personally led loyal forces in over 20 battles to subdue Arab tribes that would not willfully submit to his supremacy and religion. This religion was founded violently. Its history cannot be changed.
The Islamic terrorists have declared war on us. It is a holy war, and they have no “rules of engagement.” Destruction of Israel and America is their goal, by any means necessary. To a Muslim, we are all infidels; less than dogs. This is Islam against the world, and yet our country is committed to following rules of battle that give all the advantage to our enemy. Jihadists certainly do not follow the Geneva Convention regarding prisoners of war. Beheading is not acceptable. We should bend the rules somewhat to level that playing field, using their religious beliefs to our advantage. A very simple, yet undoubtedly effective tactic would be to use pig fat as a lubricant on all US military bullets. Contamination with anything from a pig defiles the body and prohibits entry into heaven. Therefore, the martyr’s efforts are for naught. Publicizing this tactic may eliminate some otherwise eager volunteers. In 2004 Israeli police implemented a similar method to prevent terrorist attacks on buses by hanging bags of pig fat in the front and back of the bus.
Mecca and Medina lie in Saudi Arabia. The House of Saud has ridden the tiger of Salafism/Wahhabism since it came to power to ensure its own survival and dominance. Saudi rulers allow this Muslim sect to control education and overall religion in the country, which produced fifteen of the nineteen terrorists involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on America. We need to seriously reevaluate our relationship with Saudi Arabia in light of the duplicity of the “friendship” they profess with the USA.
The Middle East and the world will not know peace until there is peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Palestinians will not stop terrorism until there is a Palestinian homeland. Israel refuses to give up land they have taken by force to provide that land for a Palestinian homeland. The constant antagonism is the source of hatred on both sides of this issue. Many believe that if these two factions can come to an agreement on mutual homeland issues, then life can move on. But there always seems to be one or more groups that refuse to consider anything but total annihilation of the opposition.
LEARNING FROM HISTORY
Following World War II our forces used the civilian police and military forces of Germany and Japan to maintain order and help rebuild those countries. In Iraq, we disbanded the Iraqi Army and released thousands of combat-trained men into the country without a source of income. Learning nothing from World War II logic, we further destabilized the situation. Now we are trying to re-recruit those people back into the military and police services, and it is taking time and patience. We should not give up, and our help is critical to rebuilding their infrastructure and society. Our liberal news media wants us out; the people of Iraq want us to stay.
The strife and fighting in Iraq will continue for years to come, and we must come to the understanding that our military forces cannot allow our defeat by slow attrition. The enemy used American public opinion to help defeat our efforts in Vietnam, and today’s enemy is repeating this tactic in Iraq. Our public seems to have accepted the sudden killing of nearly 3,000 people on 9/11 easier than seeing the same number of our soldiers dying over a four-year period. This war will continue against us whether we bring all our soldiers home or not. The only difference is that we will be fighting a defensive war on our own soil – a reactive war instead of a proactive one. We need to give our military leaders whatever they need to do the job, and that starts by getting both political parties united behind them, and not fighting in Congress over defunding them and setting a deadline. Wars don’t have deadlines.
We should pressure Syria to give up whatever Iraqi weapons they have in their possession, i.e. weapons of mass destruction, and any other contraband moved from Iraq to Syria just before the invasion of Iraq. We need to send a message to the insurgents in Iraq that negative public opinion in the USA will not help them win their goals. Unfortunately, our American public is terribly misinformed by our country’s extremely liberal press. Daily death tolls in the Middle East should be printed in a chart alongside daily murder figures from America’s major cities. At least those who give their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan do so for a just purpose – FREEDOM.
THE USA AS LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD
The United States of America remains the beacon of hope and the promise of freedom for oppressed people everywhere in the world. We are the guardian of democracy, but cannot be “peace police” without the aid and assistance of other free states. We have many valuable allies, but should have many more for the good our country has accomplished around the world. It will be my job to regain world trust and restore that hope, so that once again the leader of this country can be admired and respected by all.
European nations that we thought would help us with the war in Iraq were lucratively trading with Saddam, and considered that continuing trade more important to them and their countries than supporting our efforts. We need to sit down and discuss our futures in the light of our current terrorist threat. Europe is more vulnerable than we are, and one day soon there will be missiles in the Middle East that can reach major cities in Europe. Appeasement of aggression will only lead to more aggression and bloodshed. England wasn’t able to appease Hitler. She just gave him time to get stronger.
HIGHLY-RESISTANT TUBERCULOSIS AND OTHER DISEASES
There are many disease threats that still plague the world today, and there are new, emerging diseases that pose even greater problems. Malaria is still the greatest killer disease in the world today, accounting for 1.5 to 2.7 million lives each year and untold loss of productivity in those who suffer from malarial recurring attacks. Tuberculosis has returned after decades of decline in the world, with newly-evolved resistance to traditional medical cures. Nearly everyone is aware of the threat of avian flu and how, with today’s ease of travel, it can spread rapidly around the globe.
Investing in medical and disease research will undoubtedly save many lives in the future, and spending money on something as simple as mosquito nets can save lives right now in third world countries. America will work together with researchers and scientists in other countries to coordinate efforts to prevent, control, and eradicate the diseases that threaten us all.
THE CHALLENGE OF CHINA
The United States of America is the sworn enemy of China’s military command, and they plan daily for possible war with us. We, of course, are doing the same regarding China and many other countries, both friend and foe. Peace reigns when the consequences of war are unacceptable. Those who believe in a utopian peace on this Earth must deny the ambitions of ever-emerging fanatics seeking power and dominance. There will be more Hitlers, Stalins, Idi Amins, Mao Zedongs, Pol Pots, and Saddams. They are being born today.
During the past two decades American corporations and those of many other countries have invested heavily in China to benefit from low labor costs. We should be investing heavily in our own country, not one that seeks dominion over us. We are putting way too much trust in a government that plans to manipulate its currency to devaluate ours. With a stroke of a pen they could also nationalize everything we’ve invested in. There is no “balance of trade” with China. It is an avalanche of money into their treasury. Everything we buy “Made in China” strengthens the communist People’s Republic of China.
The USA needs to reevaluate the overall effects that free trade with China has had on our economy and security, as well as the projected future of this relationship. I see that the agreements prior administrations have made with other countries have benefited them much more than us, often to our detriment (North American Free Trade Agreement). We need to put America and Americans first.
