Donald K. Allen for President

Term Limits for Congress

This is something I believe is necessary to remove dead wood and instill new growth. Let them go out and get a real job, like returning to practicing law. These should not be “elected for life.” The House of Representatives (2-year terms) should be limited to a total of 12 years, or five reelections. The Senate (6-year terms) should be also limited to 12 years, or one reelection. Twelve years is more than enough time for any politician to get done what they want to. Staying longer just allows them to develop more power to sway and control others.

Also, 12 years should be the maximum allowable, cumulatively, for both houses.  That means you can’t spend 12 years in the House of Representatives, then jump over to the Senate and do another 12.

Since most of these individuals are attorneys, they will probably do fine when they return to practice.  Many become lobbyists after serving in Congress, but I will try to eliminate professional lobbying as well.

By serving only 12 years, they will not be eligible for retirement incomes, which will save our government millions of dollars in the long run.
