War in Iraq/Afghanistan
When politicians begin running our wars, more of our men and women die. When politicians run our wars, a whole lot of people suffer needlessly. Examples? At the “end” of World War II in Europe, General George Patton could see what was going to happen. He strongly suggested that our Allied forces push the Russians right back to their original borders. We had the equipment, supplies, and the men in Europe to do the job. But our politicians said, “No, George, we don’t want to turn on our own Allies.” (quote not attributable to anyone in particular). So hundreds of millions of previously free people lived their next 50 years under the Soviet boot. Another example?
During the Korean War General MacArthur had pushed the North Korean Army back all the way to the Yalu River. Chinese jets with North Korean and Soviet pilots had bases across the border in China. Every day they flew south to attack our troops. Our fighters chased them back, but were not allowed to cross the border. Didn’t want to upset the Chinese. Then Chinese troops massed along the border, ready to attack south. MacArthur wanted to destroy all the bridges and even considered the use of tactical nuclear weapons. But our politicians thought that would provoke the Chinese, so they fired MacArthur. What happened? The Chinese poured over the border and pushed the UN troops back and forth over the present demarcation line. Finally a truce, and for the past 50 years millions of Koreans have suffered under the boots of various lunatic leaders, including the one right now that is waving nukes.
Now, do you want to talk about Viet Nam and why we didn’t mine Haiphong Harbor or bomb Hanoi into a cow pasture?
When the United States goes to war, we should give our generals free hand (short of nukes) to do whatever it takes to totally subdue the enemy and its whole populace. Remember Dresden, Hamburg, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki? That’s what it takes to win a war – total unconditional surrender of the entire population or face total destruction. Use the hammer.
This sounds like I’m a hawk, but I’m not. I just know that the hawks eat the doves.
